Commitment to Accessibility

If you are a Democratic candidate running for office, endorsed by  a Democratic party entity, or working for a campaign, we ask you to sign the Washington Democrats Accessibility Pledge and work to insure all your campaign events are accessible to people with disabilities, or publish any known barriers so people know the lay of the land.

Washington Democrats Accessibility Pledge

As a candidate for elective office, I pledge to uphold the following principles in my campaign:

  • I will hold campaign events in accessible venues when possible.

  • When this is not possible (in a private home) I will ensure that the person publicizing the event or issuing invitations will consult with someone knowledgeable about accessibility issues (chair of the Kitsap County Accessible Communities Advisory Committee or the chair of the WSDDIC) to see ways the location can be easily made more accessible, like borrowing a portable ramp).

  • I will also ensure that accessibility information is included in announcements of and invitations to campaign events to increase access and avoid embarrassing members of the disability community.

  • I will make sure that my campaign staff is aware of this pledge and my intention to uphold it.
